Description
Beyond Chania’s Old Town lies Halepa: a neighbourhood of elegant villas, old industries, diplomatic history and sea views.
Halepa Walk is a self-guided historical route that invites you to explore this distinctive side of Chania at your own pace. Following the map on your phone, you will walk through the streets of Halepa and the Tabakaria area, discovering stories of work, political change, architecture and everyday life.
Along the way, the walk introduces places connected with the Cretan State, Prince George, Eleftherios Venizelos, the former consulates and the industrial history of the old tanneries. It is not simply a route between monuments: it is an invitation to notice how a neighbourhood helped shape the modern history of Chania.
The walk is designed for visitors who want to go beyond the Old Harbour and discover a quieter, less familiar but deeply historic part of the city.
